being late, and on first class 5:32 pm

there is something about this trip that makes us all feel so tired: it is so packed (in a good way). have alot of things to do at one place for a short period of time and we tend to rush for our travelling schedules.

number one: TORONTO TO LA:::we were unintentionally late for our plane for LA from toronto. thanks to a terrible bus driver. we were panicking cos we NEVER took public transport to the airport before. 6 lost people pulling our luggages along a busy t-junction trying to figure out how to get our airport in time before we miss our plane.

number two: LAS VEGAS TO SEATTLE:::we were shopping at an outlet at Las vegas. apparently, the outlet was situated just at the border of nevada and california. our flight to seattle was at 8.10pm. The ride from the the outlet back to our motel was a good 45 min shuttle bus plus 15 mins cab. the cab ride from our motel to the airport was around 20 mins cab. so we wanted to take the 5.30pm shuttle back to las vegas to reach our motel by 6.45pm.

We were on time for our shuttle bus at 530. we stood outside the outlet waitin for our shuttle but it didnt come. or so we thought. there was a van loading some people, but it didnt occur to us to board the vehicle cos it didnt look like the vehicle we took to the outlet. so when our familiar bus came, the driver was like " why are u still here, the van that just left was your ride!". then u should see our faces- SHITE. we are SO gonna miss our flight to seattle. With a terruble traffic that we witnessed every night at the STRIP (a road where all the popular hotels are located) we are in serious shite. Not very easy to get a cab either. But thank goodness we managed to get a good cab driver.. we reached the airport 5 mins before check in closes. at the gate, i dont know how and why, 4 of us (2 of them did not followed us to seattle) we got upgraded to first class on alaska airlines!the funny thing was we did an online check in the night before, so i thought our seats are confirmed. but whatever it is, im glad we got first class for this 2 hrs flight. why? domestic flights never has meals or free snacks for us. i nearly starved to death on my 5 hrs flight to LA. but this time, after buying 2 bags of potato chips in preparation for our flights, we didnt open any of them and got free snacks (FREE FLOW!) to munch on! i love my life..... my first time on first class!!!!! im so gonna keep the airtix man...

number three: SEATTLE TO VANCOUVER:::: ok, i think outlet shopping is bad bad bad.. we are perpetually late for everything thanks for outlet shopping. but oh my gosh... seattle premium outlet is SO GOOD! anyway, seattle's outlet location is tricky... we took 2 hrs to travel to the outlet from downtown seattle by bus. their brouchere said that it only takes 30 min drive.. liars. apparently, the outlet was located almost near the border of USA and Canada. LIke WHAT THE...!!!!! WE WERE GOING TO AND FRO THE BORDER TWICE IN 1 DAY!!! anyway, by the time we reach the outlet at 2pm, we only had 2 hrs to shop cos we have to make our way back to downtown seattle at 5pm and get ready for our greyhound ride which is at 6.25pm. at 415pm, we called for a cab and it came at 450pm. we were so screwed... we were so certain that for once we might miss our bus to vancouver. it took us 1 hr and 100 usd cab ride back to our inn to grab our bags and to the greyhound station. WE reached the station at 6pm.. just in time for boarding..... 30 mins into our bus ride to vancouver...we passed by teh seattle premium outlets.. and im sure we felt like killing ourselves- we spent 100 usd just to go back to the place we were at 1.5 hrs ago.

grrrr... highly stressful trip man.. but it was fun. i just hope i dont miss my plane flight back to toronto from vancouver on monday night. reaching toronto on tues morning and i have a mid term in the afternoon.. help me please.

West Coast trip: LA- Hollywood & Santa Monica 5:37 pm

arrived at LA last night on chu yi. it is pretty funny how i'd spend my cny this year. lets talk abt chuyi; had reunion dinner with my fellow significant thirds at the basement of our house. 3 lonely singaporeans preparing our steamboat with a wide array for meat, seafood and veg, all in the name of clearing our fridge before leaving toronto for 11-13 days. if not, all the food will rot. This steamboat thing is pretty a good idea; we made our own ice lemon tea, our own beef shabu-shabu, king crab legs, 2 flavors of either homemade chicken stock or tomyum based soup. most importantly, we used our ricecooker as our steamboat machine! :) good stuff and probably the best meal i EVERY eaten since touching down in toronto. hohoho.. the food is just getting better. will post the photos on facebook soon! what's cool is that there was a snow storm outside our house.. and everywhere is white and snowy. so, is it christmas or cny... i wonder..

anyway, our trip to the toronto int'l airport is rather interesting. in the effort to save money on transport, we (5 girls and 1 guy) decided to take a bus to the airport. BUT the bus driver was rude (im surprised, 1st rude canadian public officer) and we landed about 2 km from the airport departures. but we managed to get to airport in time for last minute check in after flagging down a cab. this cab driver is one kind of a big time arse; i gave him 20 bucks for the cab fare (and i was expecting a change) and the cab fare was only 5 dollars. he returned me 5 bucks and saying it was a tip. then baolin asked me why i paid the driver cos SHE PAID him 10 bucks before. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE CAB DRIVERS AT THE AIRPORT!!!! IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME!!!.

anyway, landed in LA at night and im 14 hrs behind sg now (3 hrs behind toronto). i didnt know our accommodation is right smack in hollywood: HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL HOSTEL. if u watch the oscars, the hostel is just opposite the theatre where they hold the show. so u can see like stars walking down the red carpet. this weekend is the grammies @ the staples centre. so we kinda missed it cos we will be in LA by then. the hostel looks dodgying but it is really ok. what else can u demand from for a 18-bucks a night hostel. thursday night is the start of the wkend for north americans. so even though the shops are closed, clubs are happening places to be at.

headed down to take a few snap shots of the popular hollywood sign. still cant believe im at hollywood after so many years of watching the shows on TV. LA is the place where all the stars lives. but all honestly, toronto and la feels pretty much the same (Except for the snow part and more crazy ang mohs screaming and lifting their shirts to show their manly nipples while driving pass us. Hollywood is really what u see in the movies; people gettin arrested, people selling starhouse maps, walk of fame and the hand&foot prints cement slab @the chinese theatre kodak centre. other than that, tourist rip off i guess.

headed down to san monica at around noon; passed by UCLA and beverly hills. seriously, their beaches are gorgoeous. love the sand and the sun. i was so happy to be LA cos i get to wear slippers (flippys) and tube dress with leggings! no downcoat or boots or 3 layers of clothings for winter. when we reached the beach, i decided to do the one thing i have to do on my exchange travelling: smu jump! funny how we dont do the smu jump until we are out of smu. hur hur. so 6 of us... doing the smu jump over and over again... UNTIL a freak accident came. Kai (one of the girls) had a bad landing and sprained her knee cap very badly. so jasper and i were like running like baywatch lifeguards to find the nearest drug store. in the end, we took her to the nearest hospital (which is UCLA medical centre). quite an interesting way to explore LA rather than to get on a guided tour. the wait was long so we decided take a walk out to eat KRISPY CREMES!!!! with coffee bean drinks.

I AM A COOL PERSON! :p u know back in sg, everyone thinks that malibu dream sucks. but hey, it is the most popular drink in Santa monica (cos maybe it is just 5 miles way from malibu itself. but due to its popularity, it was sold out. darn, and i thought i can drink malibu dream at its place of origin.

So after a long wait and consultation, kai is in a cast with crutches. one man down so everyone has to carry extra weight. we bought tv-and-microwavable dinners to eat back at the hostel. hur hur.. poor us. it's gonna be TV dinners and potatos and junk food for the next 11 days.. im REALLY gonna look american.. and it shows.. :(

b*t*ching time (Again) 5:11 am

yes, i am a good christian. i just wanna express my emotions more deeply rather than just saying "grumbling time".

ok, i was just going down to the basement of schulich (called, tuscher's) to grab my lunch. i forgot to grab lunch at home.. so kinda spend 5CAD (7.50 sgd) on cheese n steak sandwich (no drinks, few chips. the only consolation: good shite. So again, i missed my monday's class..( i really need to do something about this man...) all my classes starts at 1pm or 2.30pm (Except for my advanced corp finance which starts at 10). i simply cannot come to terms thaat i have to wake up 2 hrs before school starts to prepare myself. like back in sg, i used to wake up 45min - 1 hr before class and i can still be on time. Guess, this is life, huh (and very inefficient transport system). Ok, i shall give some credit to the transport systems.. they are very nice people and super crazy about safety. over the weekend, we were stuck at a station for about 5 to 7 mins becos some little kiddo lost his mom AT THE STATION (not in the train). the train conductor took the effort to stop and make announcements to search for the kiddo's mom. nice bunch of people, i tell ya.

what do i wanna complain about this time? WATER. the necessity of life. the sustaining element of life. THIS COUNTRY has tonnes of snow.. tonnes of mountains... tonnes of lake.. tonnes of land to build distillation plants or reverse urine machines to get drinkable water. BUT WHY IN THE WHILE WATER COST SO EXPENSIVE?!!!! like a bottle of mineral water cost 2CAD (3.50 sgd mind u!) or they sell portable water in the super markets in gallons. OK, if they are selling alcohol like dirty cheap in europe, they are exempted from my complaint. BUT NO. grrr...

enough said.

weekend updates: Friday night, went to this sg guy-working-in-toronto house. Lewis and gang hooked us up. He prepared a lasagna meal and we talked and played poker. now i know why poker is so addictive.. hur hur His apartment is super nice. looks like a hotel. Can u imagine, u have a almost full fledged gym with indoor (and out door) pool which overlooks toronto. Full fledged gym... poker room... restaurant...concierge. ALL IN A CONDO BUILDING. HE hAS TVEE TOOO (and dishwasher and most importantly.. NO IDIOTIC LANDLORD) if i were working in TO, i will get such apartments...

sat: boring boring boring day. did nothing but eat and watch shows online the whole day. i was super bored to the point at 830pm, i called jasper out of his room and drag him to eat dessert with me all the way at yorkdale. SUPER GOOD STUFF! waffle and ice cream with brownie bits is AWESOMENESS. but by the 8th bite.. u will get diminishing returns to waffles. what i like to call: JE-lat-ness.

Then the NTU peeps plus wensi called (they were in town for 3 days) and we brought them to village idiot pub. shockingly speaking, the drinks that night was BAD. we missed our favourite 2-day-old waiter eric, cos he gets us the good stuff. oh well.i shant complain more.. i recovered from my stomach flu and my appetite. AT LEAST i can eat and taste. :P

snow storm 5:54 am

my first snow storm in TO. and i slept through it.

jasper and i were super excited to hear that a snow storm is heading to toronto. cmon, once in my life time.. SNOW STORM! wanted to go out in the middle of the night and pretend to be news reporters to report on the storm outside our house. but, slept thru it.

anyway, went to a jazz bar last night at eglinton & yonge. cool place. at first it was weird. the music they were playing were phuture kind of songs and mixes. super good i must say, but then when u see the crowd... u see middle age office, corporate people, all SUIT UP (hur hur barney is getting into me) drinking and hanging around. a very confused miss-mixed place... but then the live band came up and performed 2 more sets of powerful pop, regge and other genres of songs. u can just become high from listening to them. without a drop of alcohol :)

and it is only thursday night and these corporate people are partying so hard. cool stuff!
